Petrol Pipeline between India and Sri-Lanka

Sri-Lankan president Anura Kumara Dissanayake reached India on his first foreign trip. He clearly mentioned that Sri-Lanka will always support the Indian security in the Indian ocean and never allow anyone to use Sri-Lanka against Indian soil.

He thanked India for their help to overcome the economic cricis of Sri-Lanka in the recent years.

India is about to lay a petrol pipeline between Sri-Lanka and India for the better and fast trade between the two nations. In the Hyderabad house both the leaders done some agreements on the energy sector, digital infrastucture, trade in Indian currency, maritime security and in the sector of defence. Indian Foregin Ministry named these agreements as the strong foundation stone for the new relations between both the nations.

An agreement held between the nations in which there will be a multi product petrolium pipeline will be layed between UAE, Sri-Lanka and India and the electrical grid connectivity will be made more strong. India will provide LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) supply to Sri-Lanka and combined development of wind power in the Pak gulf and promote free trade between both nation in both Indian rupee and Sri-Lankan rupee.

Both nations agreed on following fields

  • Similar to the India’s Aadhar card digital identification and verification system, Sri-Lanka will also develop its own digital identification and verification system.
  • Sri-Lanka will also develop its UPI system similar to India’s UPI system with the help of Indian companies.
  • India will help Sri-Lanka to increase its defence capabilities.
  • Relaxation in the return of the debt by Sri-Lanka and extending the return time.
  • 1500 Sri-Lankan civil servents will be trainned in India and 200 Sri-Lankan students will get monthly scholarship.
  • Boat facilities will be started between India’s Rameshwaram and Sri-Lanka’s Talaimannar.
  • Solar energy project in Sampur (Trincomalee) of Sri-Lanka will be set-up by the help of India.

President Dissanayake also asked India’s support on Sri-Lanka’s application for the membership of BRICKS. Whereas Indian PM welcomed the Sri-Lanka’s support on the candidature of India for the temporary seat of UNSC (United Nations Security Council) for the year 2028-2029.
